Male Nipple Reduction
typically males are not as concerned with their nipples as they are with gland accumulation. they will accept the normal variance in nipple size. This is an interesting case that I want to present here to illustrate how communication between physician and patient is key in addressing the root issue and making patients happy.
This patient came to me concerned about gynecomastia. he had prior surgeries performed twice. he was still uncomfortable with his chest appearance. I didn’t feel he had much tissue left, but I addressed the size of his nipples and when questioned, he said that yes, its the nipple size that bothers him.
we designed a “parachute” style procedure to decrease the nipple tissue amount. this is a much smaller and simpler procedure than gynecomastia surgery.
healing from this surgery is about one week.
while the difference is relatively minor, the difference in the proportions of the nipple to areola ratio is great. he is very happy and finally comfortable with his chest.
